A Chino Sewer Scope When the Cleanout Is Buried in Stucco

Every sewer scope starts at an access point. Most of the time that's a cleanout sticking out of the ground or the wall, and the camera is running within a few minutes. Sometimes the cleanout is there, but somebody stuccoed right over it. That's what we found on a recent job, and it's more common than most people expect.

If you're buying, selling, or just worried about a home in Chino, here's what happens when the cleanout is hard to reach, and why it shouldn't stop the inspection. Questions before you book? Call 714-992-6363.

Why Cleanouts Disappear

Chino runs from older neighborhoods near the city center to large newer developments on the south side. Older homes have had decades of stucco re-coats and patch jobs. Newer homes sometimes had the cleanout covered during finish work and never reopened. Either way, the access point is the first thing we have to find before the camera goes in.

The result looks like the photo above: a square nut poking out of the wall, with the plug's threads locked in place by plaster. A homeowner can live there for years without knowing the cleanout exists. A buyer's inspector may write "no access" and move on.

Clearing Access Without Wrecking the Wall

We don't skip a line because the cleanout is awkward. On this job we chipped the stucco back by hand, only as far as needed to free the plug, and caught the debris on a drop cloth. Once the old plug was out, the pipe was open and ready.

The goal is a small, tidy opening around the cleanout, not a demolition project. We don't patch stucco. That's work for a plasterer, and we leave it to the homeowner to decide whether it's worth doing. Leaving the cleanout reachable is a favor to whoever needs it next, whether that's a plumber clearing a stoppage or another inspector.

What the Camera Showed

With access cleared, the camera went down the line. The screen shows the date and the cable distance from the access point, and the run is recorded from start to finish.

On this one, the line was clear. That's a good outcome, and it's exactly the kind of answer a buyer or seller wants before the deal moves forward. A clear line still comes with a full report: the video, the photos, and our notes, so you have a record of the line's condition on the day we looked.

When we do find something, we report it by cable distance (the footage from the access point) and mark it on the surface. We never give a depth number. Locator depth readings shift, and a number that's a foot off creates arguments instead of answers.

Closing It Back Up

Before we left, the old plug was replaced with a new cap. The cleanout is now sealed and still easy to open the next time someone needs into the line.

Independent by Design

FlowPro inspects. We don't sell repairs, and we take no referral fees from plumbers or anyone else. If a line needs cleaning, we'll recommend hydro jetting, but we don't jet lines we've just scoped. That separation is the point: our report says what the camera saw, not what someone hopes to sell you.
